Leonardo TMNT, sometimes known as Leo, is a superhero created by American comic book creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird that appears in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and related media. Together with his brothers Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, he is one of the franchise's four main protagonists. The turtles' commander and strategist is Leonardo.

His trademark weapons are a pair of katana, sometimes known as ninjatos, and he is frequently seen donning an ocean blue bandana. His austere manner and strong sense of duty are what make him the most disciplined and mature of the Turtles, according to traditional portrayals. He shares his brothers' surname, Leonardo da Vinci, in honor of an Italian Renaissance artist. Every one of the four Turtles wore red in the original comic books.

1987 animated television program
Leonardo is described as the leader of the turtles in the lyrics to the theme song from the 1987 TV series. He is a serious do-gooder who does not play about and his commands are typically followed. He was drawn to Lotus, a young Japanese swordswoman prodigy hired by Krang to take the place of Shredder, whom she (together with Rocksteady and Bebop) vanquished. She used a trick blade to knock Leonardo unconscious when their combat came to a standstill. She attempted to get him to join her as a "ninja for hire" when they first met again, but he refused. After betraying Krang, she rushed away to resume her life as a hired gun.

Leonardo considers himself to be a serious leader. His brothers find him annoying because he may be bossy. They will comply most of the time, but occasionally they won't. During the "Leonardo lightens up" episode in Season 4, his brothers became so irritated that they turned on a personality alternator to help him relax. This caused a lot of issues, but things eventually returned to normal.

Leonardo would perform a supporting role as the band's bassist at the live "Coming Out of Their Shells" concert tour premiere at Radio City Music Hall, with Michelangelo playing the lead vocal and guitar roles. Nevertheless, Leonardo assumes his position as the Turtles' battlefield commander once more when they are faced with the Shredder and his troops during certain parts of the program, and they start to obey his commands during the different battle scenes. During non-musical parts of the play, Cam Clarke would reprise Leonardo's voice, however, he is not given credit on the VHS recording of the performance.

I always had Leonardo as my favorite. I played with his action figure the most as a kid. I think that he was just a natural leader who seemed really balanced as compared to the other Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I also, love his double swords. It's only later on that I thought that have a bo staff like Donatello would be a great idea or the sais like Rafael. I value leadership. So when I talk to other TMNT fans they often mention another character for thier traits.
