Pinan Nidan Karate Kata

Anko Itosu is the creator and developer of the second Pinan Kata series, Pinan Nidan. This kata is frequently the first one taught to novices in any of the Shurite-influenced karate schools, such as Wado Ryu, Shotokan, Shito Ryu, etc. In some Shotokan schools, this kata is also called Heian Shodan (sometimes Nidan). Gichin Funakoshi altered the name to Heian, which sounds more Japanese, from Pinan, which sounds more Chinese and Okinawn.
