Rocksteady | TMNT

Updated: Nov 10, 2024

A significant adversary in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is Rocksteady. He was once Ivan Steranko, a human Russian armaments merchant connected to Shredder and The Foot Clan. Along with his sidekick Bebop, he is now an anthropomorphic white rhinoceros and one of Shredder's hench-mutants. In Enemy Of My Enemy, he made his screen debut.

Owen Rocksteed aka Rocksteady is an enemy of the Ninja Turtles. He was formerly a Caucasian American thug that worked for Shredder in the Foot Clan alongside with Bebop. He is now a mutant rhinoceros, after being mutated by Baxter Stockman with the Purple Mutagen, who works for Shredder to defeat the Turtles.

Rocksteady | Movie

It was intended for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze to have Bebop and Rocksteady.

The creators of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, objected, in part because the characters needed to go through legal clearances. As a result, two original characters, Tokka and Rahza, took the characters' place.

During the TMNT end credits, the Gym Class Heroes song "Shell Shock" mentions Bebop and Rocksteady.

Turtles Forever has two characters, Bebop and Rocksteady, who are portrayed by Braford Cameron and Johnny Castro, respectively. When the Turtles return to the 1987 dimension for the first time, their human bodies are also visible. They stated to their Turtle counterparts in a flashback that described how the Turtles crossed realms.

Rocksteady | TMNT | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles | Video Game

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an arcade game where Bebop and Rocksteady are boss characters. Before saving April in the game, the Turtles face off against Rocksteady and Bebop again after defeating them in the first and second levels, respectively. In their attempts to charge the Turtles, Rocksteady and Bebop occasionally run into each other; however, this only restores the Turtles' stamina to full, not their general health.[18] The second encounter featured Baxter Stockman in his mutant insect form, taking the place of the rematch between Rocksteady and Bebop when the game was released on the NES.

Rocksteady | My Take |TMNT

My take on Rocksteady is that he was always the coolest villian in TMNT. I grew up watching the cartoons, wearing the merch such as T-shirts. Also, just enjoying TMNT and Rocksteady for the entertainment value that it provided. Rocksteady plunged myself and other children into the world of good mutated turtle ninjas who eat pizza vs. Rocksteady and Beebop who were like schoolyard thugs who took your lunch money.
