Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird invented the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles media property, which is led by the supervillain The Shredder. Since making his debut as the turtles' archenemy and their Master Splinter in the May 1984 comic book Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 from Mirage Studios, the character has endured.
Shredder was named the 39th best comic book villain of all time by IGN in 2009. With live-action versions starring James Saito, François Chau, Tohoru Masamune, and Brian Tee, the character has appeared in nearly every TMNT media adaptation. Kevin, Scottie Ray, and James Avery Among the actors that have voiced the character in animated movies and TV series are Michael Richardson and Hoon Lee.
Shredder | Concept and creation
Kevin Eastman got the idea for the Shredder's armor from large trapezoidal cheese graters which he envisioned on a villainous character's arms. He then said, "Could you imagine a character with weapons on his arms like this?" Peter Laird suggested the name The Shredder. Although Shredder is often depicted as the main antagonist in most TMNT.
Actually, I don't think Kevin or I ever saw Shredder as a REALLY key aspect of an ongoing, long-running conflict with the Turtles, even though many TMNT fans who become fans via the first animated series see it that way. Sure, he played a significant role in their past and without his presence in their world—or, more precisely, Splinter's world—they very likely would not have existed at all, but that's about it. I never missed Shredder in any of the other TMNT comics I worked on, with the exception of bringing him back for "Return to New York" (and the few issues prior that set up that arc).
Shredder made his debut in Kevin Eastman's artwork for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (May 1984).
In the original Mirage Comics comic books, Oroku Saki had an older brother named Oroku Nagi. He was slain in a feud over a woman named Tang Shen by fellow ninja Hamato Yoshi, who owned Splinter and was the tutor of the Turtles. Yoshi then fled to the United States with Shen.

Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi were both Japanese members of the Foot Clan in the 1987 anime series. Yoshi was forced into exile in New York City after Saki set him up for the attempted murder of a visiting sensei. There, he resided in the sewers with four pet turtles that he had unintentionally dumped down a storm drain.
