Citation Michaelangelo
As one of the four primary characters of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books and all associated media, Michelangelo, also known by his nickname Mikey, is a superhero. The most naturally gifted of the four brothers, Michelangelo is more interested in leisure than martial arts training. He is the team's most animated and gregarious member, yet it is revealed that he is still a little child at times. He is well-known for his quick wit, optimism, and love of pizza and skating. Typically, he is shown with an orange eye mask on. Though he has also been seen with various weapons, including a grappling hook, manriki-gusari, kusarigama, tonfa, and a three-section staff (in certain action figures), his signature weaponry is a single or dual nunchaku. In the media, he is frequently represented as having a Californian accent.

Compared to the more somber Mirage comic books, which catered to an older readership, Michelangelo was given a far larger part in the 1987 cartoon series and later series and films. The majority of their catchphrases, such "Cowabunga!" and "Booyakasha!" from the 2012 series, are frequently his inventions. He shares the same name as the other brothers, Michelangelo, in honor of an Italian Renaissance artist. The initial developers of his name may have spelled his namesake's name incorrectly because they mistook it for "Michaelangelo." While all four of the Turtles wore red masks in the Mirage comics, in later media, he was given an orange mask to distinguish him from the others.

At first, Michelangelo was portrayed in the Mirage comic books as a carefree, jovial, and, although not as combative as Raphael, always prepared to battle. In comic book adaptations, he is far more somber than in the movies, where he is portrayed as a perpetually "dude" talking teenager. During this series, Michelangelo's one-shot developed most of the characteristics that have come to define the character, including his easygoing demeanor, humor, and empathy. In the one-shot narrative, Michelangelo not only stops thieves from taking items intended for orphaned children, but he also adopts a stray cat that he calls Klunk.
We find out that Michelangelo enjoys comic books during their time at the farm, especially those with superheroes like "The Justice Force" (comic book heroes modeled on The Justice League and The Fantastic Four). He also writes fiction, which gives him comfort, and he has written a novel in which he is a feudal Japanese rōnin.

The animated series from 1987 solidified Michelangelo's identity. Despite being true in the 1987 series (which earned him this label in the theme song), the stereotype of him as a "Party Dude" only partially describes who he is. Though he was just as active as his siblings, he was generally not included in the team's plans because he was the "party dude". Usually, he would occupy much of his time joking and interacting with other characters.

Initially, Michelangelo used his signature nunchaku as his weapons throughout the series, but sequences showing them in use were removed from the local broadcast due to the controversy surrounding them in the UK. As retaliation, the American showrunners eliminated the nunchaku completely from the fourth season, substituting a grappling hook known to fans as "Turtle Line" that became Mikey's go-to weapon for the remainder of the program.
