Why it matters / Themes Introduced
Legacy & regret: Johnny is haunted by his loss to Daniel and all the myths and memories that followed. The show frames how a single defeat (and how you choose to live with it) shapes one’s identity. EW.com+1
Rivalry renewed: The past between Johnny & Daniel is never fully buried. Even after decades, their lives intersect, forming tension. This sets up the central conflict of the show. EW.com+1
Redemption and second chances: Johnny reopening Cobra Kai is both a chance for him to reclaim purpose and fix things (in his mind). Miguel gives Johnny a reason to step back into a teaching role. EW.com+1
Bullies, underdogs, and empowerment: Miguel being bullied, seeking self-defense; Johnny’s style (harsh / “Cobra Kai” way) vs Daniel’s more balanced / honorable way.
Joe is all heart minus some brains. He's an orange belt in karate. He watches Kobra Kai on Netflix and has seen all seasons.
