Plot Summary | Cobra Kai Season 2, Episode 2 (“Back in Black”):
Cobra Kai Expands | Cobra Kai Season 2, Episode 2 (“Back in Black”):
With Cobra Kai’s All Valley victory fresh in mind, the dojo attracts a wave of new students eager to join.
Kreese is still hanging around, offering advice and encouragement to Johnny. Though Johnny is wary, he allows him to help for the time being.
Kreese immediately begins influencing the recruits with his aggressive philosophy, which unsettles Johnny.
Miyagi-Do Opens | Cobra Kai Season 2, Episode 2 (“Back in Black”):
Daniel officially opens Miyagi-Do Karate, offering free lessons to counter Cobra Kai’s growing influence.
Robby is his first full-time student, but Samantha eventually joins too after distancing herself from Miguel and her old friends.
Daniel hopes Miyagi-Do’s focus on balance, defense, and discipline will attract students who want an alternative to Cobra Kai’s ruthless teachings.
Recruiting Students
Daniel and Sam try to recruit at the local high school, but most kids are still drawn to Cobra Kai’s aggressive style.
Meanwhile, Johnny has trouble keeping his students in check. Hawk and the others are more interested in showing off and fighting dirty than respecting the art of karate.
Miguel & Sam
Miguel feels guilty about what happened at the party and still wants to reconnect with Sam.
But Sam is growing closer to Robby at Miyagi-Do, creating more tension between Miguel and Johnny’s estranged son.
Clash of Philosophies
In a training montage, the differences between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do are highlighted:
Cobra Kai trains for domination, with Kreese whispering in the ears of students like Hawk.
Miyagi-Do focuses on balance, chores-as-training (wax on, wax off style), and patience.
The episode ends with both dojos preparing for inevitable conflict, each side believing their way is the true path.
Key Themes | Cobra Kai Season 2, Episode 2 (“Back in Black”):
Two Paths for the Future: Johnny and Daniel represent two opposite philosophies of martial arts, and their students reflect the same divide.
The Danger of Kreese: His presence is subtle but toxic, already pulling students deeper into Cobra Kai’s old ways.
Friendship & Rivalry: The love triangle between Miguel, Sam, and Robby intensifies, adding personal stakes to the dojo war.
Joe is an orange belt. Training for a green belt.
